Balloon boy

Our host will perform a platform upgrade the week of October 30th. The website will remain online during this period. However, they’ve asked me to refrain from adding any new images or text during the last week of October due to the migration process. It’s therefore my goal to provide four comics the second-to-last week. Let’s hope I have enough time to get them done.

Highly productive weekend for me. I was able to churn out three new strips based on Cedric’s concepts in less than two days. And there will be plenty more made this coming week. I’ve been tweaking my coloring methods, which have made the comic somewhat prettier to look at. You may also notice cleaner, sharper lines, and a lot more detail. This is because each new comic will be made at a resolution of 3875 x 2237 at 300 DPI (when it’s uploaded here, it’s only 930 x 537 at 72 DPI). This is being done for two reasons. One: to push myself artistically. Two: so that at some point this Zooillogical story arc can be easily converted to a printable format. And believe me, with Ced’s talent for creating amusing and fantastic situations, this story arc will be worth printing.

Our friend Vinny is providing us with an invaluable service right now. He’s writing transcripts for all the comics, which will make comic searches much, much easier. A big thank you to him.

In terms of the site, I think we’re just about there. Despite any verbal clubbing that took place, the Zooillogical domain only lapsed for a day. My credit card was renewed a few days prior. And since I’ve been in the process of moving away my domains from Hostway, I neglected to update billing information there. The domain transfer process could be described as confusing at best, which was no fault of our current host and domain registrar. The process was brickwalled several times for different reasons, and Hostway’s technical support is next to zero. In order to talk to someone over the phone, you have to pay an additional fee. So to get shit done, I sent an e-mail every day until they gave up, and decided to do something about it. My current host has 24/7 tech support chat and a toll-free phone number for business hours. Names4Ever / Aplus have been very helpful. They maintain a great customer support program, and there should be no upsets now.

The zoo is back from its abrupt hiatus, folks. Dave has really gone out of his way to fix domain name and hosting issues after I verbally clubbed him for letting the domain lapse. You will also notice the switch to the new comic press layout, which streamlines all the bullshit we’ve output in the last six years. I’m sure tweaks will continue to be made in the proceeding weeks.

More good news for people who are too easily excited; Dave can make tons of comics at once, but the site will only post them twice a week! What this means is, he can no longer go on artistic benders and vomit 10 comics out on this site in one day and then leave you, the adoring public, comic-less for an entire goddamned summer. It’s like some sort of artists version of delaying premature ejaculation.

But I digress, the next few comics will begin an interesting new chapter in Zoo politics. Normally, any strip with even a hint of political commentary is done solely by Dave. This time time however, I’m jumping head first into cement mixer and throwing a party. Anyone gullible enough to join in?

Hey all. This is Dave letting you know that Zooillogical has just undergone a growth spurt. It took about a week to transfer domain registrars, and point zooillogical.com to its new host. The site will now be using ComicPress, which is a modification of Wordpress. So far, I’m really liking it!

I spent the day restoring the database of older comics, so everything should be there. Now it’s all a matter of getting the transcripts done, and start planning things out. Not only do Ced and I want to move forward with the comic, but I also want to revisit some of the earlier work – some of the better ones – and show a revitalized version of them. Simply check out the first comic strip to see what I mean.

So we’re not dead! …Yet. Keep checking us out, and I guarantee more comics.
